Dear Members
It is with a high degree of satisfaction and pride that we advise our members, that our development application DA 22/1015 has been approved. Our strategy has always been to lodge one single development application for all critical works so that our key projects can fit under one development application and approval. This approval is now confirmed by the Land and Environment Court.
The critical works approved include:
- Refurbishment of the Women's and Men's Locker rooms.
- Much needed clubhouse refurbishments, including dramatic improvements to our pro shop area and immediate surrounds.
- A significant increase to members' personal golf club storage facilities.
- A significant increase in the size and functionality of our northern & western outdoor balconies, including an increase in necessary wet weather covering for golfers, and an improved traffic flow when entering and exiting the golf course.
- Some modification of our golf course/car park member entry points.
- A new building, containing two floors, which provides for a very significant increase and purpose-built golf bag & buggy and golf cart storage.
- A multipurpose, clubhouse linked, upstairs members' room.
It is expected that this work will form part of a medium to longer-term strategy, with the aim of bringing our clubhouse and member service provision to a standard expected by private golf club members.
Consistent with my undertaking at the member's information night in 2022 and my statements in the 2023 Annual Report and 2023 AGM, now that the DA is approved, the board will begin to undertake a comprehensive update on costings for all approved works and to establish project priorities and possible timings. It is anticipated that details will be discussed with our membership at a member information night which will likely be held in Quarter 1, 2024. Our aim will be to further update members with details on all projects, costings, and recommended priorities.
I am also pleased to advise our members that approval of this DA clearly gives us the opportunity to undertake a review of the functionality of our upstairs area within the Club, and I can assure members this will include a review of the current suboptimal location of Children's play area.
We will have Club management provide viewing areas of our approved DA plans via our website and within the clubhouse as soon as possible, which will be early in the new year.
With the announcement of the opening of our practice area precinct last Friday, 15th December, we are sure all members will be pleased by what we have achieved in our 100-year anniversary. Exciting times and great opportunities are ahead for Cronulla Golf Club members and the Shire community.
We wish our members all the very best for Christmas and the New Year.
For and on behalf of the Board.
Sincere regards,
Bob Richardson - President
